Understanding God: The Joy of Finally Hearing God’s Good and Gracious Word

A personal story that goes far in explaining why the church is losing members, and more importantly how we can bring them back into the fold.

What Are We Doing Here?

The purpose of this site is to give full expression of my faith in Jesus Christ as Risen Lord and Savior.  Since I have been given the gift of faith in God and His son, Jesus the Christ I feel compelled to respond with gratitude.  All of us should seek to do good works, not in order to gain salvation, but because we have been given salvation as a free gift.

Therefore, as with all God’s children, I will seek to, as feebly, as I can, to do what I can in furtherance of God’s Kingdom.  To that end I focus on two areas of concern: peace and stewardship.

The focus on peace is critical.  All that God desires for His children is wrapped up in furthering peace and ending violence among and between humanity.  This is of primary concern.  All that we could ever hope to accomplish in God’s world depends upon nonviolence.  The command to love God and love your neighbor, as well as the New Commandment given at the Last Supper to love one another the way that God loves us puts this effort front and center.  In a world of war and under the constant threat of nuclear destruction the only battle worth waging is the battle for peace.

The second area of focus is stewardship.  This is simply because I have an extensive background in financial services and retirement planning.  I know the intricacies of this world; I understand the pitfalls and traps and I can identify the opportunities.  I, by virtue of my past, can help people succeed in this area, and it is my firm conviction that God wants us to use all our human experience to further His mission.

To further both goals, this site has been constructed to connect you with resources to explore your faith in a practical way, to think about what God wants for His children and to get involved and increase your impact.

May all of us seek, not our will but His!  Praise Be to God!

You Just Never Know

Garden Parables… Again The text this week is Mark 4:26-34.  This sees Jesus teaching His followers with the use of agricultural and garden parables.  To those of us with brown thumbs this can get frustrating!  Yet, it is always good to remember that like any good preacher Jesus knows His ...

Would Jesus Support Israel?

The Case Against Israel The idea of genocide is much discussed these days, as Israel stands plausibly accused of committing genocide by the International Court of Justice.  I not only think there is plausibility to these charges, but I think it is plainly the case that Israel is guilty.  Not ...

Little by Little The mechanics of moral compromise operate a lot like the ...

A Hard Lesson

Logical Jesus The text this week is Mark 3:20-35.  This has several parts to it.  The first part sees the scribes claiming that Jesus has Beelzebul within Him. The scribes are claiming that Jesus is using the prince of demons to drive demons from those possessed.  Jesus uses simple, yet powerful ...

The Breath of God

Really, Peaking at 15 Well, I would not say that I peaked as a human being at 15.  I am still waiting for that to happen!  I will lay claim to reaching an athletic peak at the ripe age of 15.  That may be somewhat dispiriting, but there it is.  ...

The World Misses the Point

Running Into the Rule Minders The text for this week is Mark 2:23-3:6.  This week begins the “teaching season of the church calendar.  The rest of the year in the cycle will be about the lessons Jesus imparted while on earth.  This lesson is a doozy.  Jesus is going along ...
