Understanding God: The Joy of Finally Hearing God’s Good and Gracious Word

A personal story that goes far in explaining why the church is losing members, and more importantly how we can bring them back into the fold.

What Are We Doing Here?

The purpose of this site is to give full expression of my faith in Jesus Christ as Risen Lord and Savior.  Since I have been given the gift of faith in God and His son, Jesus the Christ I feel compelled to respond with gratitude.  All of us should seek to do good works, not in order to gain salvation, but because we have been given salvation as a free gift.

Therefore, as with all God’s children, I will seek to, as feebly, as I can, to do what I can in furtherance of God’s Kingdom.  To that end I focus on two areas of concern: peace and stewardship.

The focus on peace is critical.  All that God desires for His children is wrapped up in furthering peace and ending violence among and between humanity.  This is of primary concern.  All that we could ever hope to accomplish in God’s world depends upon nonviolence.  The command to love God and love your neighbor, as well as the New Commandment given at the Last Supper to love one another the way that God loves us puts this effort front and center.  In a world of war and under the constant threat of nuclear destruction the only battle worth waging is the battle for peace.

The second area of focus is stewardship.  This is simply because I have an extensive background in financial services and retirement planning.  I know the intricacies of this world; I understand the pitfalls and traps and I can identify the opportunities.  I, by virtue of my past, can help people succeed in this area, and it is my firm conviction that God wants us to use all our human experience to further His mission.

To further both goals, this site has been constructed to connect you with resources to explore your faith in a practical way, to think about what God wants for His children and to get involved and increase your impact.

May all of us seek, not our will but His!  Praise Be to God!

Radical Preparation

Preparation for the Radical by the Radical The text this week is Mark 1:1-8.  This seems like a true Advent text compared to the one last week.  It talks of John the Baptist preparing the way for the arrival of Jesus.  Mark cites the Old Testament prophet Isaiah about making ...

Anywhere But In Between

The Idea Comes From the Bible There is a long history of references in popular culture to the idea of not  being “in between”.  The idea is to take a stand, to dig in, to let the world know what you think is important.  The immediate such reference that comes ...

At the Beginning Think About the End

But in Those Days These words begin this week’s text, which is Mark 13:24-37.  This passage has Jesus talking about the end times, and what they might look like.  This seems an odd way to begin a new church year, but there it is.  It also seems that Jesus has ...

Thanks for What?

The Often-Harsh Reality As we finish up another season of Thanksgiving in America, I cannot help but feel thankful.  I sit stuffed to the gills after a series of stunningly bad food choices, having left neither the couch nor my lounge pants since Wednesday evening.  In the dictionary under “cosseted ...

Final Exam

The Gathering This week’s text is Matthew 25: 31-46.  This is the tale of the end of it all.  The final sorting.  All the talk about wheat and chaff, tossing out some into the outer darkness, etc… is coming to fruition in this text.  This is the proverbial sheep and ...

Culture Wars: Old is New Again

We Have Been Here Before (in fact we never left) The culture wars are all the rage.  It seems that everywhere you look you can see evidence of people tearing each other apart.  One side is a bunch of “deplorables”, clinging to their guns and bibles, while the other side ...
