What Are We Doing Here?

The purpose of this site is to give full expression of my faith in Jesus Christ as Risen Lord and Savior.  Since I have been given the gift of faith in God and His son, Jesus the Christ I feel compelled to respond with gratitude.  All of us should seek to do good works, not in order to gain salvation, but because we have been given salvation as a free gift.

Therefore, as with all God’s children, I will seek to, as feebly, as I can, to do what I can in furtherance of God’s Kingdom.  To that end I focus on two areas of concern: peace and stewardship.

The focus on peace is critical.  All that God desires for His children is wrapped up in furthering peace and ending violence among and between humanity.  This is of primary concern.  All that we could ever hope to accomplish in God’s world depends upon nonviolence.  The command to love God and love your neighbor, as well as the New Commandment given at the Last Supper to love one another the way that God loves us puts this effort front and center.  In a world of war and under the constant threat of nuclear destruction the only battle worth waging is the battle for peace.

The second area of focus is stewardship.  This is simply because I have an extensive background in financial services and retirement planning.  I know the intricacies of this world; I understand the pitfalls and traps and I can identify the opportunities.  I, by virtue of my past, can help people succeed in this area, and it is my firm conviction that God wants us to use all our human experience to further His mission.

To further both goals, this site has been constructed to connect you with resources to explore your faith in a practical way, to think about what God wants for His children and to get involved and increase your impact.

May all of us seek, not our will but His!  Praise Be to God!

The Practicality of Peace

This is an update from a 2018 post. The topic is, sadly, more relevant than ever. The practical case for peace also still stands up better than ever. A Brief History of the Failure of War The single biggest objection to implementing a philosophy of pacifism is that it will …

Shine On!

Unfashionable to Evangelize The text this week is Matthew 5: 13-20.  This is a continuation of Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount.  It too, like the text last week gives us a glimpse into what a life of faith and grace looks like.  I will focus on the first part of …

The Myth of Sacrosanct National Borders

Today’s Excuse One of the most trotted out excuses for the US led proxy war in Ukraine is that Ukraine’s borders must be protected.  The territorial integrity of Ukraine must be preserved, at an obviously enormous cost.  Specifically what is meant by this claim is the borders of Ukraine as …

Be-lief Begets a Be-attitude

Best Sermon…Ever This week’s text is Matthew 5: 1-12.  This is the justly famous Sermon on the Mount.  This is arguably the best sermon ever since it encapsulates so much of what Jesus wants to teach us.  Every point in the sermon is predicated on faith in Jesus as Lord …

An Open Letter to Raphael Warnock

Dear Mr. Warnock, I truly wish I did not need to write this letter, but the faith in Jesus as Risen Lord that was given to me leaves me no other alternative.  I take as my Scriptural inspiration for this letter 1Tim 5:20, as unpleasant as that task may be. …

So It Begins

Begin at the Beginning The text for this week is Matthew 4: 12-23.  This is the passage that marks the beginning of Jesus’s earthly ministry and the call of the first apostles.    Jesus chooses to begin His ministry in Galilee.  In fact, He is returning to Galilee after the execution …
