What Are We Doing Here?

The purpose of this site is to give full expression of my faith in Jesus Christ as Risen Lord and Savior.  Since I have been given the gift of faith in God and His son, Jesus the Christ I feel compelled to respond with gratitude.  All of us should seek to do good works, not in order to gain salvation, but because we have been given salvation as a free gift.

Therefore, as with all God’s children, I will seek to, as feebly, as I can, to do what I can in furtherance of God’s Kingdom.  To that end I focus on two areas of concern: peace and stewardship.

The focus on peace is critical.  All that God desires for His children is wrapped up in furthering peace and ending violence among and between humanity.  This is of primary concern.  All that we could ever hope to accomplish in God’s world depends upon nonviolence.  The command to love God and love your neighbor, as well as the New Commandment given at the Last Supper to love one another the way that God loves us puts this effort front and center.  In a world of war and under the constant threat of nuclear destruction the only battle worth waging is the battle for peace.

The second area of focus is stewardship.  This is simply because I have an extensive background in financial services and retirement planning.  I know the intricacies of this world; I understand the pitfalls and traps and I can identify the opportunities.  I, by virtue of my past, can help people succeed in this area, and it is my firm conviction that God wants us to use all our human experience to further His mission.

To further both goals, this site has been constructed to connect you with resources to explore your faith in a practical way, to think about what God wants for His children and to get involved and increase your impact.

May all of us seek, not our will but His!  Praise Be to God!

Be Ready

A Litany of Advice This week’s text is Luke 12:32-40.  This is a veritable litany of sayings and advice from Jesus.  Some of His more familiar quotes are in this short passage.  As with many biblical passages, you could write multiple commentaries about this text.  If you have ever listened …

Still Peace Through Hard Money

Now that the Federal Reserve is on the front pages for timidly starting to raise rates in the face of 9%+ general price increases, and with the U.S. continuing it’s dangerous war policy in Ukraine, it is a good time to revisit a post from 2018.  U.S. monetary and imperial …

A Dangerous Mission Creep

Still a Grinding, Deadly Slaughter The war in Ukraine continues to grind on producing a slow rolling slaughter of mostly innocent, powerless civilians.  Russia has slowly enveloped the eastern Donbas region of Ukraine and continues to take control of more territory slowly but relentlessly.  Additionally, Russia is making gains along …

Be Irritatingly Persistent

Prayer as a Demand This week’s text is Luke 11: 1-13.  This sees Jesus giving us the Lord’s Prayer and other instructions on how to pray.  The glaringly obvious thing about all this is that Jesus would have us boldly, and indeed irritatingly demand things from God.  None of this …

Cancel Me?

A Tale of Youthful Ignorance It was mid-November of 1990, and I was working as a bartender/manager of a family-owned pub and grill.  I have written of the importance of such places previously.  I was at the time looking ahead on the calendar and thinking about what specials or events …
